The "Jack Harris method ©" to Cracking Cyber Patrol Version 2.0 Many of you may have read the original guide to CyberPatrol on alt.censorship, www.peacefire.org etc and found it hard to carry out the procedure it described. I have written this new version to try and clear up any doubts about it's reliability. The best thing about the JH method is that it works with THE LATEST version of Cyber Patrol (hear that CPCrack guys?) and takes down both censorship AND time blocks. I have had many problems with the other CP methods in the past (ie they don't work) so I made one of my own… Here we go… 1. See that little icon on your taskbar with the yellow shield and blue/red P on it? That's Cyber Patrol. This little bugger stops your every move and censors such bizarre places as uk.rec.ufo. Ironically it censors alt.censorship ;) With my help it will soon be ineffective. First things first; log on to the net. CP doesn't block this. 2. Right click on that little icon and scroll up until you see "Site Inspection Report…" If it's in bold then proceed to step 3. If it's ghosted over and you are unable to click on it, then I'm afraid a full reboot is in order. This only generally happens if you have previously used the "JH ©" method. 3. In the "My E-mail address" box, put someone's e-mail address that you don't know. Think of anyone, though my personal favourite is john15@yahoo.com (if you're reading sorry john). This will save all the e-mails that the CP bot throws back at you being directed to your account, and so clogging up your e-mail account. Anyway, then put any site/newsgroup into the "Site Addr:" box. My personal favourite is alt.censorship. I feel it's sending out a message to the twats at Cyber Patrol. Then click the left button by it, hold it down and drag across the words (that's highlighting to most of us) and press CTRL + C. This copies it and saves you having to type it out every time. Then in the "Reason(s):" box don't bother typing anything. It doesn't matter. 4. Now for the good bit. Click on the "Send site info to Cyber central" box. A blue bar in a window should appear saying "Sending a message to Cyber Central…". If after approx. 2 seconds there is a brief flash and it comes up with a "Site Accepted!" message then click OK and go back to step 2. When you click your cursor into the "Site Addr:" box press CTRL + V. This saves you having to type it all out again. This is the most boring bit of the "JH method ©" . Sometimes you can go for 10 times without getting the hallowed "4 second pause" (see next step). IF however, there IS an approx. 4 second pause with a brief click (on my computer at least) then you must slam CTRL + ALT + DEL immediately. This will bring up a "Close Program" window. Then slam return, and as CyberPatrol (described as whatever user CyberPatrol is set on, usually Default) is at the top of your list, Windows will try and close the prog down. SOMETIMES, quite rarely, it will work first time, but not often. It should then return to the blue bar. QUICKLY hit CTRL + ALT + DEL again and hit return. Keep repeating that CTRl + ALT + DEL thing until you get a largish window saying "Error:…" Click OK and the CP should be gone! TIP: Here lies the real skill in the JH method. Good hand to eye co-ordination is needed to keep your eyes on the screen whilst frantically pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL and Return. If the 'Site Accepted!' message appears stop immediately and return to step 2, as trying to close the program down now triggers off CP's anti-hacker security and it blocks out all net access. 5. However everything is not yet fine. Try doing anything that involves using the net; logging onto a web site (banned or otherwise). If you get the familiar message "You have been blocked by Cyber Patrol!" then you have done something wrong, and have tripped the anti-hacker security. You will have to reboot and start again. Otherwise nothing should happen and you will be free to peruse the net for whatever you like, for however long you like! Run the "Dummy Default © "… HOW TO MAKE THE "DUMMY DEFAULT ©" PROGRAM So you've successfully performed the "JH method ©" but your boss/parents/teacher keep on walking in and you have to reboot the comp and do it all over! Not when you run the "Dummy Default © " prog. you don't! The "Dummy Default" is simply a program which takes the place of Cyber Patrol. It looks like Cyber Patrol in the taskbar, which is enough for the vast majority of peers. They will simply note that it is there and walk on. If you're reading this on www.peacefire.org then you should be able to download it from there. Ignore whatever the program does- it's irrelevant. All you need to do is rename it to whatever user you're meant to be on. If you're reading this on one of the newsgroups, then either retrieve it from peacefire or follow these directions: 1. Find an old .exe file. Any. Just one you never use. If you don't have one, just download a very small hacking program or something. 2. Right click on it, go down to 'Rename' and type in whatever user your version of Cyber Patrol was set on (in my case 'Default'). 3. Right click on it again and scroll down to 'Properties…' Then go to the 'Program' tab at the top. Then click on the 'Change Icon…' box. 4. The file path from which Windows is taking the icons from will be highlighted, and be called C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\something.DLL. Press backspace (thus deleting it) , and in it's place type C:\Patrol\cp.exe. This should bring up a lovely row of Cyber Patrol icons. If it doesn't, then cyber patrol is installed somewhere else. Try 'Find…' in the Start menu for 'Cyber Patrol'. If it's installed on D, E, F etc then just put D:\Patrol\cp.exe etc. 5. Then click on the blue P icon (or red if you're not meant to be on). Click OK, then 'Apply' . Then run the prog., minimise and hey presto your very own CP! I only just discovered that now (8:48 PM, June 13th 1999) and it wasn't too hard! Even for a computer thicko like me! --------------------JH----------------- Believe me this method WORKS. How else would I have gotten on to peacefire for example? Here is a short FAQ with some of the most popular questions answered… 1. Why can't I just CTRL + ALT + DEL when CP is just sitting there on the taskbar? This, unfortunately, triggers off CP's in built anti-hacker security, thus putting an immediate and total block on the net, 2. Why does the "Jack Harris method © " work? I'm not sure, but I think doing the 'Site Inspection' bit temporarily leaves CP's defences open, allowing you to blast it with the CTRL + ALT + DEL. 3. How did you discover the "Jack Harris method ©"? Many months of fettling around with the CTRL + ALT + DEL theory. Ironically, CP froze once and I had to use CTRL + ALT + DEL to close it down and get the computer running again. Afterwards I noticed (to my delight) CP was ineffective, and testing began there! 4. I can't get the "Jack Harris method © " to work. What should I do? Simple; e-mail Jack Harris himself at xorn@enterprise.net I'll be willing to answer any questions at all. Even really simple ones. Don't be afraid. 5. Who else helped with the "Jack Harris method ©" ? Credit is due to: GreenDay, The Fun Loving Criminals, Lit and other great bands who gave me inspiration when times were low. Ray, for inspiring me to get going. A-rod, Novocaine, Weedo, tercel and others for giving me info, even though it was all bollocks. The Cyber Patrol staff, for making the program very hard to break, but not impossible. My dad, for providing me with this computer to crack CP on. Bennet Haselton, for letting me put the "Jack Harris method" © on www.peacefire.org And not forgetting my own human instinct, for making me try to see stuff I only wanted to see because it was forbidden… That just about wraps up this version of the "Jack Harris method ©". Have fun kids… Jack.
